This week's Route of the Week is the Route 40! The Route 40 starts in Queen Village at 2nd & Lombard, traveling west to Graduate Hospital, before crossing the Schuylkill River and traveling through University City, towards Fairmount Park, before looping towards Wynnefield, ending its route at Conshohocken & Monument.

While the Route 40 isn't a Nite Owl route, it does operate from 5:00am to 2:30am seven days a week. On a typical weekday, this route carries 6,833 passengers and makes 219 trips. Annually, the Route 40 travels 544,500 miles.

The Route 40 was a trolley line until buses replaced streetcars on September 8, 1956. Streetcar service operated from the Parkside Loop in Weest Philly to 2nd & Lombard in Queen Village.
